Lewis Alumni Feature: Cristian Palacio '21

If you put a challenge in front of Cristian Palacio '21, you can bet he’ll accept it. The 2021 graduate of Lewis University isn’t one to back down. In part, that’s what drew him to become an ammunitions specialist in the U.S. Army from 2014-2018 – which, as he quickly learned, dealt heavily with logistics.

That path eventually led him to Lewis – where he received his degree in supply chain management with a focus in logistics.

“What drew me to supply chain was how interesting it is to see all the parts work together to get a product from raw materials to the consumer,” said Cristian. “After my time in the Army, I had a good understanding of what the supply chain industry was like and I found it both challenging and rewarding.”

While studying at Lewis, Cristian was heavily involved in the Office of Veteran’s Affairs, taking part in programs that were established to assist and connect with other veteran students.

“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we held several events to meet and engage with our students,” said Cristian about his work at the Office of Veteran’s Affairs. “It’s part of what drew me to Lewis University – they’re recognized as one of Illinois’ best veteran colleges.”

After graduating, Cristian landed a job at Transplace, an Uber Freight Company, as an Intermodal Coordinator. In that position, he works diligently to make sure freight gets from one place to another. Without his insight, it would cost companies more money to ship their product to the consumer. In short, he not only helps a company ship its product from point ‘A’ to point ‘B,’ but also helps them do it in a way that’s economical.

“There are many ways to not only save our customers money, but to assist them with reducing wastes in their supply chain which is incredibly valuable,” said Cristian. “I am fortunate to be in a great team that helps each other to service our customers the best we can.”

Cristian landed his job at Transplace about a month after graduating – and credits the Supply Chain Management Program at Lewis for getting him ready.

“The professors bring with them an enormous amount of experience and provide industry insight through guest speakers and warehouse tours,” said Cristian.

“Lewis University got me ready for what I do at Transplace. I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
